Wild About Reading

7/05/2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
All students at Beenleigh State High have been invited to participate in BOOK SAFARI – a school wide reading competition.  This is going to be a very exciting competition with loads of fantastic prizes to be won.  We are encouraging all students from Year 7 -12, boys and girls, to get involved in this competition.  At Beenleigh SHS we value the importance of reading and believe this is a lifelong skill that all students need.  We would like all students to give it a go, especially those who don’t like reading or have difficulty reading.  We want everyone to challenge themselves and to get excited about reading.
So what are the fantastic prizes????
·     After every student has read 5 books they get to choose a prize from the book safari secret prize box.  They will also go into the draw to win an iPad mini.
·     After 10 books they will get another opportunity to choose a prize out of the prize box.
·     At the end of the competition – Term 4, the top reader from Year
7 – 12 will each be awarded an iPad Mini.  That’s 7 iPad Mini’s up for grabs!
·     There will also be other encouragement awards given out along our Book Safari journey – eg. Top Reading Care Group.
So how do the students sign up????
1.   Come to the ELC next week to collect a Book Safari booklet and a bookmark
2.   Choose a book from the library or at home and start reading.
3.   When you have finished your book, complete one reflection sheet from your booklet, bring the book and booklet into school and get Mrs Nathan or Miss Fiona to stamp the reflection sheet and add you to the progress chart.
..  Choose another book! Read, read, and read!
The teachers, students and administration are very excited for this competition to begin and we hope that from this we will develop lifelong readers, who love to read.  Please encourage your son or daughter to get involved and come on a Book Safari with me.
