Maths Team Challenge

Maths Team Challenge Students

On Thursday 29th of August at Kingston State School four Beenleigh SHS teams competed in the Logan Maths Team Challenge.  We came away placing first in both the Year 8 Team Competition and the Year 9/10 Competition and 3rd in the Year 9/10 Competition. The Year 8 winning team competitors were: Jazz Brook, Jessica Augustini, Mykelti Brundell-Bruce and two other students. The other Year 8 students who competed were: Shania Collis, Ashleigh Hughes, Alex Shoesmith, Piper Thomas, and Scott McLeish. The Year 9 students who participated in the Year 9/10 Competition and came in first place were:  Claresse Babad, Matthew Canafe, Bryce Landers, Danii-elle Morris and Hayden Scudds and the students who placed third in the same category were: Caitlyn Allen, Kyra Brook, Jessica Longham, Carey Mataituli, and Chloe Squires. There were two events: a team challenge that went for 45 minutes and included 10 questions to be completed as a team, and then a relay event that went for an hour, where teams were split into pairs and a passer, with 20 questions and each team took turns to attempted alternate questions. Our two winning teams won by over 25 points in each division. We are so proud of the twenty students who took to the challenge and gained so much from the experience and it was such a fun day for everyone involved. “Let’s start training for next year” several students stated on the bus back to school. A win for our students! CONGRATULATIONS.
Big Thanks to Toni Tereva and Wendy Captain for being our team teachers for the day and Miss Burke and Miss Grantz for organising the event, training the teams and getting there and backJ. Special Thanks to Michael Begley who picked us up after the event due to the weight in the trophies.
