Hospitality Excursion

Year 11/12 Hospitality Excursion
During week 1, the Year 11 Kitchen Operations Certificate students and the Year 12 Front of House Hospitality students were taken to the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Benowa, Gold Coast, for a close up view of a high-end Hospitality environment. Students experienced a detailed kitchen tour starting with the delivery of food products, right through to final service and necessary hygiene and safety standards. The students were privileged to have Executive Sous Chef Barry Atkinson explain the safe handling of food products and how the various restaurants at the facility differ in terms of the products they offer. The Teppanyaki restaurant, Arakawa, was a highlight for the students. At the completion of the site tour, students experienced a fine-dining lunch experience to observe the various tastes, textures, components and presentation techniques required when serving menu items at this level.
The front of house students were taken on a special tour with Conference & Events Operations Manager David Callaghan, to gain an insight into the service standards required in a 5 star resort. They viewed the in-room dining facility, the various restaurants and gained an understanding of the necessary skills and qualities required to work in top market businesses. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to putting into practice knowledge they learnt into their own Hospitality practice.
